Vertical Garden
Vertical Garden, Living walls, Vertical planter or green walls are self sufficient vertical gardens that are attached to an exterior wall using hydroponics (The plants receive water and nutrients from within the vertical support instead of from the ground). The plants root in a structural support which is fastened to the wall itself and are dynamic living things.
The concept dates back to the 1930’s but is recently gaining popularity in Outdoor Living Spaces. Many times they are grown vertically and become a landscape backdrop adding vibrant plantings that become a virtual living mosaic work-of-art. They are also wonderful Privacy Screens to mask the view of the neighbor or an unsightly part of the Landscape Space.
And, taking advantage of planting on the wall means you can reserve the floor, while still having the benefit of a living garden.
It would be a good idea to have your Vertical Garden designed by a professional. Often times the frame of the living wall garden itself needs to be designed to match the style of the home as well as fit into the Outdoor Living Space.
Irrigation for the Vertical Garden should also be considered and designed by a professional.
